August 2023, I hired a car from Thrifty Davao for my holiday. I have never driven a car in the
Philippines but used to driving in a right-hand car here in Australia. Is driving a left-hand car very
different? My answer is yes and no but I easily get used to it. The only thing I keep getting wrong is
turning the wipers instead of the indicator because of where it is in the car.
It’s not hard driving around Davao and in the province even though cars are everywhere. The only
big problem is parking and the motorcyclist. Motorcycle drivers seems to show up anywhere and its
dangerous because they can turn anytime in a blind spot that can cause accident. Luckily the only
trouble I get involved in were two traffic rule violations. One is for stopping in a pedestrian lane and
doing a u-turn in a no u-turn zone. It cost me P500 each time and of course the hassle of getting
back my ID for they confiscated it.
Would I recommend hiring a car in Davao? It is up to you. It all depends on your needs. Mine was
mainly for the convenience and experience of driving in a left-hand side. Will I do it again? Yes, I will
because I prefer the convenience of getting to where I want whenever I want. I can highly
recommend Thrifty Davao; they accept credit cards and easy to deal with. Happy driving everyone.
